CNC SCAN – Open CNC programs by barcode scan

CNC SCAN removes manual file hunting: scan a 1D/2D barcode on the part/order and the correct CNC program opens from your existing folder structure. Supports wired, wireless, and wearable scanners that emulate COM/Serial. Simplifies changeovers and keeps operators in flow.

CNC SCAN

Scan the label → the right program opens → the machine runs.
CNC SCAN is a simple solution that eliminates manual CNC program hunting. In many plants, time is lost browsing folders, checking if the chosen file is correct, or trying to remember how it was named for a specific order. Every pause idles the machine, increases the risk of launching the wrong program, and makes operators’ work harder.

With CNC SCAN, that whole chain shrinks to a single step: scan the 1D/2D barcode on the part or order, and the system immediately opens the right program from your existing folder structure. No file renaming, no folder reshuffling — the solution adapts to how you work today. The result: smoother changeovers, fewer errors, and a steady operator pace.

How it works
    1. Labeled parts. Each part or order has a 1D/2D barcode label.

    2. Scanning. The operator scans the code with a compatible scanner (wired, wireless, or wearable) that emulates a COM/Serial port.

    3. Automatic matching. CNC SCAN maps the code to your existing folder/file structure and finds the correct program file.

    4. Open and run. The program opens automatically on the CNC — the operator simply starts the cycle.

Key benefits

Automatic opening by barcode
Scan the label and CNC SCAN instantly opens the exact program required for that part or order. No more browsing folders or double-checking filenames — it’s one step from scanning to cycle start.

Works with your existing file structure
The solution fits the way your folders and filenames are already organized. No renaming or migrations needed — we configure the mapping “label code → program path”, keeping IT changes minimal.

Flexible scanning: wired, wireless, wearable
Supports 1D/2D scanners that emulate COM/Serial — from simple USB to Bluetooth receivers and wearable (ring) scanners. Choose what suits the workstation best: single scans, high-throughput (continuous), or true “hands-free” operation.

Fewer errors, consistent operator rhythm
Automatic selection removes the risk of launching the wrong program. Operators aren’t switching windows or hunting files, so changeovers shorten and the work tempo stays stable — crucial for short runs and frequent changeovers.

Fits a range of CNCs and processes
Proven on vertical drilling/milling centers (e.g., HOMAG/Weeke BHX, DRILLTEQ V-series) and on horizontal/nesting centers where programs are accessible via the file system. We assess controller specifics and adapt the opening logic.

Fast rollout, simple to maintain
We start with a quick review — folder structure, naming rules, sample labels. Then we configure the rules and run a pilot with operator training — no heavy integrations or long downtime.

Compatibility

Barcodes

  • Supports 1D and 2D barcodes.

Scanners

  • Wired (e.g., USB with virtual COM/Serial).

  • Wireless (Bluetooth or USB receivers emulating COM/Serial).

  • Wearable (ring, wrist/finger-mounted) — true hands-free scanning.

  • Core requirement: the scanner must emulate COM/Serial.

Files/folders environment

  • Works with your existing program folder structure and naming/path templates.

  • Configurable mapping between label content and the program path (e.g., “Code → folder/file”).

CNC equipment

  • Vertical drilling/milling centers (e.g., Weeke/HOMAG BHX, DRILLTEQ V-series).

  • Horizontal machining centers (nesting and gantry-type 3–5 axis) where programs are accessed via the file system.

  • Drilling/milling stations that open programs by path or filename.

  • Other controllers — evaluated case-by-case; key criteria are file-system access and the ability to open a program by path/name.

Barcode and QR code readers
Where it helps most
  • Short runs and frequent changeovers. Each switch is quicker: scan and start cutting right away.

  • Large product variety. When filenames and paths vary by customer or variant, the system selects the correct program for you.

  • Onboarding new operators quickly. No need to learn complex folder structures — scanning the label is enough.
